There are at least 7 bloodstones you can carry in the game. They can be hidden. You can ignore them until you find a bloodstone. There are more than enough stones to complete the game and have a few left over. Since Alfie is in the same area as the goblin village, you can destroy the totem in the middle of the town there for a stone.

Playing the first game is not required to enjoy the second game , but it definitelly adds up to the experience and might even help you understand what The other LW, a mage in all elements of magic, with high INT. And as always, -it is more fun if played in co-op. - if the game is too hard or you don't enjoy it, explorer difficulty is there. Yeah, it sucks your 5+ year old graphics card can't run a 2015 game, but Larian had to let go DX9/10 support to properly support multithreading. They probably could've let people still buy the old version, though. Not sure the reason it was basically entirely discontinued. #2.
