Image Quality. Not shocking to anyone is that the 28-year-newer Canon RF 85mm F2 Macro IS STM Lens design produces sharper images than the Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Lens. In the center of the frame, the RF 85 f/2 is quite sharp wide-open at f/2. At f/2.8, with contrast and resolution increasing slightly, results are razor sharp.

The only thing holding me back is that i found the 100mm macro f/2.8 IS USM not táck sharp at f/2.8 at on aps-c. There is a noticeable difference between f/2.8 and f/4.0. Not with fast AF but with not bad af. Sigma 50mm f1.4, f1 on Viltrox EF M2 handheld in lousy light\ 100mm Canon Macro f2.8 f2 on Viltrox, wide open. Handheld. The Canon Tripod Mount Ring D is shown above mounted to Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens . The 100mm f/2.8 L IS lens does not require this ring to be used on a tripod (the camera body tripod insert can be used), but the centrally-positioned Canon Tripod Mount Ring D provides a better tripod balance - and affords less movement after the tripod

Canon's EF 100mm F2.8 L Macro IS USM lens is the first to incorporate a new Hybrid IS system, which corrects for both rotational and linear camera shake. The new technology builds on the company's

The FD 100/2 is a late-MF lens – metal with a hard rubber focusing grip. At 73mm long, it’s compact for a fast 100mm lens, but at 438g lens-only (before adapter), it’s heavier than most. It feels dense and the balance is front heavy on a light camera.

The Canon 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro boasts L-series designation, weather sealing, and Canon’s four-stop hybrid image-stabilization system. The hybrid image-stabilization system compensates for linear and rotational shake, making image stabilization more effective at close distances. Advanced Optics and Focusing.

Lab data. Verdict. Sold as the Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO or Laowa 100mm f/2.8 CA-Dreamer Macro 2X, this remarkable lens from Venus Optics gives twice the maximum magnification of most macro lenses. There are two very similar versions of this lens. The original was designed for full-frame DSLRs, and is available in Canon EF and Nikon
Canon EF 100mm F2.8L IS Macro Review Canon RF 100mm F2.8L Macro IS USM Review Canon EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Review Canon RF 70-200mm F2.8L IS Review RF 100mm 2.8L macro vs the old EF 100mm 2.8L. I have the EF 100mm 2.8L in my gear box, but given that the RF version is out soon with a not so expensive price tag, I am curious if it is a good idea to sell my old EF to get the RF. From the reviews I have read so far, the RF lens looks great but I haven't seen any comparison between the 2 lenses

At 100mm a good achromatic diopter (Raynox or Canon are the best two options) will get you more magnification much more quickly than extension tubes will: For example, 25mm of extension tubes will only get you to 1.25x over 1x. Extension tubes are better suited for f=50-60mm lenses.
The original Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro lens was well known for being a versatile performer, offering 1:1 macro capabilities, sharp images, excellent image stabilization, and reliable autofocus
